Black Lip Shell teardrops were used to create the tail of this mermaid. Her torso was made from a repurposed wire wrapped earring with genuine silver pearls. She is wearing a ship’s wheel token, given to her from her favorite sailor. Between her breasts is a clear heart charm. Her tail flippers, arms, breasts and head are all repurposed jewelry, with a faceted crystal as her face, and lengths of silver chain represent her curly locks. Not intended for outdoor display.
 
Black lip shell is the specialty of Tahiti in the South Pacific between Australia and South America; there are a series of coral islands. The black-lip shell is a mollusc, gray and black nacre layer.
